After restoring an antique pocket watch with an expanding pointer in 1997, Parmigiani replicated the expansion needle structure in their own brand. The structure of the traditional expanding needle can be understood simply as allowing the end of the lever pointer to open and close along the track of an elliptical cam while the lever pointer rotates.
